Chateaus, Renaissance towns with underground tunnels, 1970s housing estates, and American vintage cars. Over two days in September, together with the Czech Film Commission, we showed film professionals what South Bohemia has to offer for filming. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Who joined us<\/h3>\n\n

The Location Tour was 15. attended by more than a dozen film professionals on September 15 and 16, 2026. Among them were executive producers and production managers from Czech Television, independent producers, location managers, directors, a cinematographer, and an editor. Representing the region, we were joined by colleagues from the Czech Canada destination management. <\/p>\n\n

This mix is exactly what makes it valuable for the region. A producer finds out how filming works in the region and who to talk to. A location manager takes photos for their database. A director and cinematographer take home inspiration. And everyone meets the location owners in person, which is often the first step toward a scout for a specific project. <\/p>\n\n

Day One: Jind\u0159ich\u016fv Hradec and Nov\u00e1 Byst\u0159ice<\/h3>\n\n

Jind\u0159ich\u016fv Hradec Chateau and historic center.<\/strong> A Gothic palace, the Black Tower, Renaissance arcades, and a Rondel all in one complex. The winding streets tucked between the Ne\u017e\u00e1rka River and the Vajgar pond have preserved their medieval layout and can play the part of the area below the castle, a Renaissance town, or Baroque alleys. <\/p>\n\n

Old Town Hall with the Jan Kot\u011bra ceremonial hall.<\/strong> A historic building with Gothic roots and an interior by a prominent early 20th-century architect. <\/p>\n\n

Hv\u011bzd\u00e1rna housing estate.<\/strong> Prefabricated apartment buildings from the 70s and 80s showed that Jind\u0159ich\u016fv Hradec isn’t just about history. It’s perfect for stories from the recent past as well as the present. <\/p>\n\n

Veteran Car Museum in Nov\u00e1 Byst\u0159ice.<\/strong> Located in a former textile factory, it houses 70 historic cars, mainly American. The drivable cars are available for filming, and the museum was a big hit with the participants. <\/p>\n\n

We ended the day at Amenity Resort Czech Canada, where we stayed and also toured the spaces the resort offers to filmmakers.<\/p>\n\n

Day Two: Czech Canada<\/h3>\n\n

Osika Campsite.<\/strong> A classic Czech campsite by a 68-hectare pond surrounded by forests. An atmosphere for stories from the 60s to the 90s, but also potentially for reality shows. <\/p>\n\n

Monastery near Nov\u00e1 Byst\u0159ice.<\/strong> The early Baroque Church of the Most Holy Trinity with the second-largest wooden altar in Europe and a vast underground crypt that only some dared to enter.<\/p>\n\n

Dobroho\u0159 Mansion.<\/strong> This Neoclassical residence was built around 1847 by converting a brewery. The current owners are gradually bringing it back to life. <\/p>\n\n

Slavonice.<\/strong> Renaissance burgher houses with sgraffito and a labyrinth of Gothic tunnels from the 13th and 14th centuries beneath them, which still hasn’t been fully mapped. Just outside the town, we also stopped at a fortification area with bunkers from 1935 to 1938. <\/p>\n\n

Da\u010dice Chateau.<\/strong> Originally a Renaissance chateau with a Neoclassical look, 19th and early 20th-century interiors, and a 10-hectare park with a pond and an island. <\/p>\n\n

\u010cesk\u00fd Rudolec Chateau.<\/strong> A Neo-Gothic residence known as “Little Hlubok\u00e1.” The contrast between the restored and decaying parts has a mysterious atmosphere. Producer Tom\u00e1\u0161 Vach told the Czech Film Commission that it would “definitely suit a crime thriller.” <\/p>\n\n

The Czech Canada landscape.<\/strong> We ended the tour at the U Jakuba observation tower with views of forests, ponds, and villages stretching all the way to Austria. Importantly, a large part of Czech Canada does not lie within a Protected Landscape Area or a national park, which can make filming easier. <\/p>\n\n

What the region gets out of it<\/h3>\n\n

Every location that filmmakers see in person has a better chance of them returning with a crew. Photos from the tour are already making their way into location agency databases and the Czech Television location registry. And when filming happens, the money stays with local hotels, restaurants, transporters, craftsmen, and other local services. <\/p>\n\n
