Since January 2, 2023, the crime series Crime Scene České Budějovice has been airing on Czech Television. The series has 13 episodes, and although the largest South Bohemian city is in the title, you will also see other, smaller towns and landscapes typical of our region in the series.

“Despite the series bearing the name of the South Bohemian metropolis in its title, it will not be a classic urban detective story. On the contrary, our aim is to spend as much time as possible outdoors in the landscape or in smaller towns and to showcase iconic places associated with the region. The picturesque beauty and tranquility of the South Bohemian landscape are contrasted with crime, mostly trivial, brutal, and unnecessary,” explains Jan Lekeš, creative producer of Czech Television.

The Crime Scene series has already visited the Plzeň and Moravian-Silesian regions. Now it’s the turn of the South Bohemian region.

Will we really see more than just České Budějovice?

“We filmed truly all over the region. We started in Šumava, but we were in Tábor, Třeboň, České Budějovice, on the right bank of Lipno, on the border with Bavaria at Šumava’s Dreisessel, in the beautiful meanders of the Vltava River near Dívčí Kámen Castle, in iconic Krumlov, among moldavite seekers, in a desolate landscape scarred by mining activity. In two episodes, we will also visit the famous South Bohemian castles, Blatná and Hluboká nad Vltavou. Some of the episodes are again based on real criminal cases. We found that South Bohemia is calmer from a criminalistic point of view. The entire filming lasted from October 5, 2021, to July 7, 2022. During August, we filmed one more scene in Šumava’s Bučina (Buchwald). In total, we spent a long but beautiful 103 filming days with the crew. A large majority of them, around 70%, were carried out precisely at locations in South Bohemia. The impression will thus be truly authentic. Everywhere we met with a warm welcome from local residents and willing cooperation during filming, and our project was financially supported by the South Bohemian Region.” Author of the concept and producer Martin Froyda

He also added “We deliberately chose South Bohemia to create a sharp contrast with the distinctly raw Ostrava.

Individual cases will be investigated by a police team consisting of David Novotný, Judit Pecháček (Bárdos), Leoš Noha, and Filip Březina.

“Your support is crucial for us, not only in preparation but also in the execution of our shows. Recently, we collaborated on last year’s fairy tale ‘The Key of St. Peter’ at Zvíkov Castle and this year on the series ‘Protectors’ – filming is taking place in Tábor and the surrounding area.

I must highlight how much you have helped us. We are currently consulting with you on the TV miniseries ‘Rain Stick’ and a Christmas fairy tale for 2025. We believe that with your help, both projects will be visually appealing and successful with audiences. The South Bohemian Film Office has become an indispensable partner for Czech Television. Thanks to your expertise and knowledge of the region, we can utilize unique locations and bring our viewers authentic and visually attractive stories.

Thank you for your flexibility, professionalism, and commitment. We look forward to more successful projects that we will realize together.”
