Travelcon Conference

The South Bohemian Travelcon conference, organized by the South Bohemian Tourism Authority, opened the panel “Filmmakers: Wait! Is Netflix coming?” to discuss the current topic of regional readiness for foreign film and television productions. The discussion, featuring Pavlína Žipková (Czech Film Commission) and Ludmila Claussová (DMO Český Krumlov Region), highlighted the growing importance of the audiovisual industry for destination development.

Foreign production as an opportunity and a commitment

The arrival of a foreign film crew represents a significant economic benefit for the region—from the use of accommodation capacities and services to the involvement of local suppliers. At the same time, however, it places high demands on infrastructure, organization, and coordination.

As mentioned during the panel, a key factor is the destination’s readiness to respond to specific production requirements quickly and with high quality.

The film office as a key partner

The regional film office plays a vital role in this process. It ensures not only communication between the production and the region, but also:

– assistance with location scouting
– coordination with public administration
– networking with local partners and suppliers
– support for a smooth filming process

The film office thus acts as an intermediary that helps minimize administrative and logistical barriers and increases the region’s attractiveness for foreign productions.

Economic and marketing impact

In addition to the direct economic benefit, filming also has a significant marketing effect. Successful films and series can influence a destination’s image in the long term and increase its international visibility—a phenomenon known as film tourism.

The economic benefits of filming in the regions are also covered in an article by Czech Radio:

South Bohemia as a film destination

The South Bohemian Region offers a diverse range of locations—historic towns, monuments, natural scenery, and industrial environments. Thanks to its location and good accessibility, it provides an attractive base for both domestic and foreign productions.

The South Bohemia Film Office has been working long-term to ensure the region is systematically prepared for the arrival of film crews—both in terms of infrastructure and cooperation with local partners.

The goal is not only to attract productions to the region but also to maximize their presence for the further development of tourism and the strengthening of the South Bohemia brand.

“Your support is crucial for us, not only in preparation but also in the execution of our shows. Recently, we collaborated on last year’s fairy tale ‘The Key of St. Peter’ at Zvíkov Castle and this year on the series ‘Protectors’ – filming is taking place in Tábor and the surrounding area.

I must highlight how much you have helped us. We are currently consulting with you on the TV miniseries ‘Rain Stick’ and a Christmas fairy tale for 2025. We believe that with your help, both projects will be visually appealing and successful with audiences. The South Bohemian Film Office has become an indispensable partner for Czech Television. Thanks to your expertise and knowledge of the region, we can utilize unique locations and bring our viewers authentic and visually attractive stories.

Thank you for your flexibility, professionalism, and commitment. We look forward to more successful projects that we will realize together.”
